How to Fundraise

Fundraising is something EVERYONE can help with – it can be as simple as passing around the hat at your workplace to collect a few coins or as grand and as extravagant as a masquerade ball.

It's totally up to you how big or small you want to make it! Just remember every dollar counts and word of mouth is a powerful tool – every little bit you do will make such a difference to the St Jude's family!

If you don't have time to organise an event, why not attend one in your local area – see the St Jude's Calendar of Events for more information.

If you are ready to fundraise, let's get started with this simple step-by-step guide. You can also download all this information and more in our Fundraising Kit.

Step 1 - Fundraising ideas & inspiration

Step 2 - What can I fundraise for?

Step 3 - Application to fundraise

Step 4 - Fundraising kit

Step 5 - What can I use to help me fundraise?

Step 6 - How can I let people know about my fundraiser?

Step 7 - How do I deposit the funds I have raised?

Step 8 - Send us your event photos

And finally...

Step 1 - Fundraising Ideas & Inspiration

Check out our list of Fundraising Ideas and Success Stories of previous fundraisers to inspire you. Work out which one best fits your schedule, resources and community.

Step 2 - What Can I Fundraise For?

Select from our list which area you would like to fundraise for so that we can supply you with our brightly coloured posters, invitations and a media release template on your chosen fundraising area.

  • Bus maintenance
  • School uniforms
  • General Maintenance
  • Teaching Resources
  • Food
  • Uniforms

So your first step is to decide which area you would like to raise funds for!

Step 3 - Application to Fundraise

Download our Application to Fundraise form and after you complete it, please scan and email it to: info@schoolofstjude.co.tz with the subject: Application to Fundraise. In your email please also advise us which area you would like to fundraise for so that we can supply you with the relevant posters, invitations and press release templates.

Step 4 - Fundraising Kit

Our Fundraising Coordinator will confirm the details of your proposed fundraising plans and supply you with an Approval to Fundraise letter that you can keep handy during your fundraising efforts. At this point you will receive the above mentioned posters, invitations and press release templates to help you spread the word about your fundraising efforts.

Step 5 - What Can I Use To Help Me Fundraise?

Posters & Invitations

Once you have selected the area that you would like to raise funds for, we will supply you with the applicable posters and invitations. These colour A4 posters and DL invitation templates will be supplied to you in PDF format and will be ready for you to insert your details and use in your community to promote your fundraising event.

Presentations

Under the Resources section of our website we have uploaded our latest General Information PowerPoint that you can use to assist you to talk about our School. We have included a couple of blank slides that you can customise with your details, logo or if you have visited us perhaps you would like to include some of your own images and points.

If you have any problems downloading these due to size please do not hesitate to email us at info@schoolofstjude.co.tz and we will make alternative arrangements to get this file to you.

Images

Under the same location as the presentation mentioned above, we also have created a St Jude's Image PowerPoint presentation that you can download and play at your fundraising event. You might like to play your own music and let the images roll on a wall/screen during meals served at your event or at the time of entry as guests are arriving.

If you have any problems downloading these due to size please do not hesitate to email us at info@schoolofstjude.co.tz and we will make alternative arrangements to get this file to you.

Logos

We are able to supply you with the school logo if you indicate this requirement at the time of lodging your Application to Fundraise.

Please note that if you are choosing to make your own posters or promotional material, we will ask that you supply us with a copy of this prior to using it.

Guest Speakers

Let us know at the time of submitting your application that you would be interested in having a guest speaker at your event and we can recommend someone that may be in your area. On that note, if you have visited us and are happy to get involved in this program please let us know so we can discuss this further.

Fact Sheet

We believe it's really important that you have current facts and statistics about our School handy for you to refer to when you are talking about us. People don't expect you to know everything, but it is great to have fundraisers who are talking the correct information about us in the community.

DVDs and Brochures

If you are running an event we can supply you with DVDs and brochures for each and every guest as long as we are given enough notice for big orders of 200+. These are provided free of charge so please email us your request to info@schoolofstjude.co.tz.

Merchandise

If you are based in Australia we currently have distributors located in Melbourne and Brisbane, who can post these to you. We will supply you with a price list that includes the costs involved to post these items to you.

If you are based in areas outside of Australia we suggest during your event that you promote the fact that there are many St Jude's items available for purchase at our Online Store.

The sale of all these items support St Jude's!

Items available for purchase include:

  • St Jude's T-Shirt
  • Gemma's Book
  • Hopeful Chef Cookbook
  • Caps
  • Beanies
  • St Jude's Kanga Bags in library and sling styles
  • St Jude's "My First Day" Children's Book

Visit our Online Store to take a look.

Go Fundraise

In the past we have had some fundraisers who set up a page through Go Fundraise. The School of St Jude page on the Go Fundraise website allows you to link your own personalised page and share this link with family, friends, colleagues etc so everyone can see how you are tracking to reach your target.

Step 6 - How Can I Let People Know About My Fundraiser?

Local Press

Journalist teams at your local newspaper and magazines are always looking for interesting stories to include that discuss someone or something represented in that community.

Once you have nominated your preferred fundraising area, our kit contains a Media Release Template where you can insert your event and personal information into and email or post to your local newspaper team.

Radio

Community radio stations are usually your best bet for support of fundraising events. Again we included the media release template in our Fundraising Kit which details the necessary information that you should supply them with and space to customise the information to talk about your event.

TV

In regional areas of Australia, most television networks have a community calendar on their station's website. You can upload details about your fundraising event for free. Networks that we are currently aware of offering this service include:
WIN
Prime

Facebook

St Jude's Page
Incase you are not already a friend, connect with us today. www.facebook.com/schoolofstjude

Sometimes if you are running a large event like a dinner, ball, speaker breakfast, golf day etc if you supply us with a PDF of the poster then we can try and include this on our Facebook page to promote the event.

Personal Page
If you are posting a flyer about your event on your own Facebook page for family and friends to share on their profiles, you may also like to set it up as an event on your personal page.

Accessing St Jude's supporter database
As you can imagine there are many events and we need to be careful not to spam our supporters’ database. If you are running large events that are open to the general public then we will submit your event flyer for approval and try and have this emailed to those supporters who are based in the surrounding area.

Please send our flyer to your designated team member for approval and possible inclusion.

Step 7 - How Do I Deposit The Funds I Have Raised?

Deposit all monies collected at your event using one of the following options:

By Direct Deposit

To make a direct deposit to St Jude's Australian bank account:

Bank Name: National Australia Bank
Account Name: Rotary Australia Overseas Aid Fund Eastern Region St Judes School
BSB: 082-183
Account Number: 187882479

If you choose this option, please include your full name as the transaction reference. Also please email us at accounts1@schoolofstjude.co.tz to advise the date and amount of the transaction(s). Both of these actions help us to identify deposits into the bank account and to allocate the money correctly.

By Cheque

Please make your cheque out to:
Rotary Australia Overseas Aid Fund - Eastern Region - St Judes School

And mail to:
The School of St Jude
Australian Financial Coordinator
PO Box 82
Kew East VIC 3102

Please include a note advising the following:
a. Your (or the donors) full name
b. The postal address of the donor
c. The email address of the donor
d. A message to say what the money is to be used for

Issuing Tax Deductible Receipts

Quite often many people may request to receive a tax deductable receipt for their donation. Although you are not able to issue one on the spot, you do have the ability to collect their details and inform them that their information will be entered into a spreadsheet and sent to the Accounts Team at St Jude's. They will then be issued with their tax deductible receipt at the end of that financial year.

Fill in the "Issue me with a tax receipt" Excel spreadsheet included with your Approval to Fundraise email. Complete the necessary information when collecting donations at your event, showing the donor's full name, postal address, email address and amount of the donation.

Please email the spreadsheet to: accounts1@schoolofstjude.co.tz to advise the date and amount of the transactions when they are deposited.

Step 8 - Send Us Your Event Photos

We ask that all our fundraisers take photos at their event of their set-up, attendees etc as we love to share these stories with not only our supporters on Facebook, but also other potential fundraisers to assist them with their efforts and everyone here at the School – it's great inspiration for us to keep up the hard work knowing that people around the world are working hard also to keep us moving forward.

And finally

For reading this far and offering to do such an amazing thing to fundraise for our School, THANK YOU! For any questions that you may have or suggestions on important information that you feel we should include in our fundraising information please email info@schoolofstjude.co.tz.
