The School of St Jude is a charity funded NGO that provides a FREE, high-quality education to almost 1,800 Primary and Secondary children from the poorest communities in Arusha. The School is growing fast as number of students is increasing and so we need more human resources to sustain our needs and be able to fulfill our mission. 

We are looking to appoint a School Nurse who is passionate about working with students and has a strong interest in NGOs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide medical attention to any member of schools Students and staff.  
  • Provides care for injuries and acute illness for all students and long-term management of students with special health care needs. 
  • To do screening and referral for health conditions.
  • Prepare and maintain student clinic records and prepare required reports
  • Conducts home visits when appropriate.
  • The employee shall serve the school during work hours and shall not leave the premises without oral/written permission form from the line manager.
  • The employee may be required to work after hours and on weekends at extracurricular work in connection with sports, exhibitions, seminars, parents, etc. even during the school vacation.
  • Devote time and attention to this service unless called on to assist in other areas that are decided on by the assistant deputy-school values and welfare.  However, health care is the primary concern.
  • To undertake any other duties as shall be assigned by your manager.
  • Allowances related to the employee performing any school-related duties away from the school are made at the discretion of the employer.

Other Duties

  • Participate and support fellow staff in school mission related activities such as all School Celebration Days throughout the year.
  • Participate in student selection process, in particular working after hours on rest days and public holidays up to 20 Saturdays per annum.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Head of Department and Manager.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

  • A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Two years’ work experience.
  • Must be a registered or enrolled Nurse.
  • Problem solving.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Quick response to emergencies.
  • Excellent written and verbal English and Kiswahili skills.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of Confidentiality, integrity and professionalism 
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
