A New Era of Sports Begins at St Jude’s

A significant new sports area is coming to life at The School of St Jude, an exciting development that will take the sports program at St Jude’s to an entirely new level. While sports have always been part of life at St Jude’s, this expanded facility will provide larger, higher-quality spaces where students can train, compete and unlock their full potential.

Already underway since October 2025 and set to be completed by June 2026, the project will include one full-sized football pitch, two warm-up training fields, multipurpose halls and a running track surrounding the fields.

The multipurpose halls will feature tennis, basketball and netball courts, along with changing rooms and a spectator platform.

Supporting this vision is Omary, a Form 6 Class of 2020 and an engineering graduate from the University of Dar es Salaam, who is currently interning with the construction company involved in the project, gaining invaluable hands-on learning experience.

Omary believes the new sports complex will become one of the finest facilities St Jude’s has ever had, one capable of hosting even international-level competitions. “This sports area will do far more than provide space to play.

It will help students sharpen their athletic skills, grow in confidence under competition, develop leadership through teamwork, while supporting sports pathways from primary competitions like UMITASHUMTA to secondary tournaments such as UMISETA,” says Omary.

With a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, he sees this as a strong foundation for his career, an opportunity to gain real-world experience, and a chance to connect with experts in the construction field. Geofrey, the Acting Facilities Manager at St Jude’s, shared that the vision goes beyond creating space; it is about inspiring more students to actively participate in sports while also increasing the school’s capacity to host larger competitions and tournaments.

“In the near future, the school hopes the facility will attract external teams and organizations, with the possibility of renting the space for sports events and competitions, further strengthening St Jude’s role as a center for sports,” says Geofrey.
