In a world where success is often measured in titles and trophies, we’re turning the spotlight on something far more meaningful, and that is fatherhood. Meet Hanzuroon, Godfrey, and Sifuni, proud alumni of St Jude’s who are now dads, redefining what it means to leave a lasting legacy.
Hanzuroon, Class of ’17
What values do you hope to pass on as a father that money can’t buy?
I want my children to understand the importance of treating others with respect and empathy, regardless of who they are. These are the values that shape character and guide how we show up in the world. I also want to instil a sense of gratitude in them to help them appreciate the simple joys of life, like laughter, love, and togetherness. While material things fade, those small, meaningful moments leave a lasting impact.
More than anything, I want them to live with purpose. I want them to grow up knowing that fulfilment isn’t found in wealth or status but in helping others and being part of something bigger than themselves. Life will bring challenges, and when it does, I hope they’ll have the strength to persevere with courage and hope. If I can pass down even a fraction of these values, I’ll feel I’ve done something meaningful as a father.
Godfrey, Class of ’16
As a father, what are the emotional or personal roles you’re discovering beyond financial support?
As a father, I’ve realized that being emotionally present isn’t just important; it’s everything. I’ve become the safe place when the world feels scary, the calm during a tantrum storm, and the voice that reminds my little ones they’re loved no matter what.
I may look like a tough guy, but if Cocomelon (A Children’s YouTube channel) ever held a concert, I’d be front row, singing every word louder than the kids… and yes, I’d be doing the hand gestures too. 😎🎤
But beyond the laughs, I’ve learned it’s not about being perfect but about being present. I’m not just raising a child. I’m raising someone’s whole world.
Sifuni, Class of ’17
Now that you’re a father, how has your understanding of fatherhood evolved beyond just meeting your children’s material needs?
Being a father is one of the most rewarding and deeply meaningful roles a man can have. Seeing your child for the first time fills your heart with immense pride. A father becomes the compass that keeps the family moving forward, often sacrificing his desires to ensure everyone is taken care of.
Despite the many responsibilities, being a father also means enjoying the small and big moments that come along the way. It’s about taking your kids on vacation and seeing the world through their eyes, where everything is new, exciting, and full of wonder. I honestly wouldn’t trade it for the world!
As we celebrate Father’s Month, these notes remind us how important dads are in shaping strong, loving families. To all our alumni fathers, you are doing a great job! Reach out to share incredible milestones in your journey via alumni@schoolofstjude.co.tz or 0766200609.
