Our First PhD Scholarship

Good news Alumni,

We are proud to announce our first ever PhD Scholarship!

Jackson ‘15 graduated from The School of St Jude with our inaugural Class of 2015. Jackson Elias currently serves as an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam's College of Agriculture and Food Technology. He earned a BSc in Agricultural Economics and an M.A in Economics from the University of Dar es Salaam, and he was recently awarded a scholarship to pursue a PhD in Agricultural/Development Economics at the University of Bonn, Germany, which he plans to commence in February 2023. His areas of research interest include agricultural economics, development economics and natural resources.

For the past five years, Jackson has been doing a variety of consultancy work both within and outside of Tanzania. He has worked as a consultant for a number of government ministries and departments, as well as for international organisations such as the World Bank.

Jackson becomes our first Alumni to secure a PhD scholarship. “This opportunity, I believe, will open up new doors not only for me, but also for my fellow alumni and continuing students”, Jackson reiterates.

The Alumni Office is open to all who would like to apply for international scholarships and all those who are applying for jobs, internships or exchange programs.

Remember a St Jude’s Alum is any person who has studied at The School of St Jude and graduated Form 6. Students who finish Form 4 and leave St Jude’s, or opt to do the Alternate Pathways Program (APP), are not yet Alumni. Our Form 4 graduates are eligible to join our Alumni Association once their peers that have continued at St Jude’s have completed Form 6.

There are still lots of opportunities out there and the Alumni team is ready to share these opportunities with each one of you. We facilitate scholarship opportunities for Undergraduate, Masters and PhD programs. Please keep an eye on our St Jude’s Connect alumni portal for these opportunities.

"It is the long history of humankind (and animal kind, too) that those who learned to collaborate and improvise most effectively have prevailed." – Charles Darwin

We call upon all alumni to participate and share different opportunities they may come across with the rest of the alumni through our socials and St Jude’s Connect.
