We’re seeking enthusiastic volunteers for the first-ever Spoken English Immersion Program at The School of St Jude in Arusha, Tanzania, a new initiative we plan to run every June. The 2026 program runs from 18 June to 4 July, with volunteers required to arrive by 17 June for a two-day planning session starting the next morning. Volunteers must commit to the full program, including weekdays and Saturday mornings.
The school will offer late-afternoon and weekend activities where volunteers can experience Tanzanian culture firsthand, plus enjoy the added bonus of exploring the local area and seeing world-renowned African wildlife nearby.
Applicants need to be outgoing, have a sense of humour, and a willingness to change and adapt in response to the unexpected. They must also be prepared to learn and respect cultural sensitivities, including appropriate clothing, greetings, and the school ethos.
If you have particular areas of expertise or interests you'd like to bring into the classroom, let us know! You’ll work in a small team of volunteers, rotating through student groups, and supported by the program’s leaders and advisors.
St Jude's is located in Arusha, a town that serves as the gateway to popular East African national parks and game reserves such as Ngorongoro Crater, the vast plains of Serengeti, Lake Manyara, Tarangire, and Arusha National Park. It is also near Mt. Kilimanjaro—the largest free-standing mountain in the world. You'll have the opportunity to experience the breathtaking beauty of Africa before or after your volunteer period at the school.
