Give our students a boost in English

So they can achieve their best

We are recruiting 30+ volunteers to deliver our new Spoken English
Immersion Program in 2026. That’s right, you could help our students gain the confidence to speak English fluently and be part of a milestone moment in St Jude’s history. If you’re adaptable, open to new experiences, and ready to embrace the unexpected, we are looking for you.

Volunteers will work with 300 newly enrolled secondary students, mostly aged 15 and older, with a small group of senior students. These students come from government schools and have written English skills but limited chances to practice speaking with native speakers, so they lack confidence in their oral English. They are bright, respectful, and eager to improve, knowing that strong spoken English greatly enhances their future job prospects in Tanzania.

You’ll help them build fluency and confidence through fun, interactive sessions like storytelling, role plays, skits, interviews, debates, charades, speech contests, and more.

Volunteers need to be native English speakers. They will work in a small team of volunteers, rotating through student groups, and supported by the program’s leaders and advisors.

The school will offer late-afternoon and weekend activities where volunteers can experience Tanzanian culture firsthand, plus enjoy the added bonus of exploring the local area and seeing worldrenowned African wildlife nearby.

What’s provided:

  • Free accommodation and airport transfers from either Mt Kilimanjaro or Arusha Airports
  • Three meals per day at the school for US$25/day
  • Support with planning and teaching
  • An unforgettable experience with eager-to-learn students and fellow volunteers!

What you’ll need to cover:

  • Return flights to Tanzania
  • Tanzanian Business Visa (US$250)
  • Personal medical and insurance costs
